What can get you in the fall mood? Some classic fall movies – that’s what! So, grab some refreshments, hit the bed or couch, snuggle up with your loved ones, and relive some nostalgic scenes from the past. If you look below, you will discover some great ideas of where to start.
Rudy
It’s football season. What better way to bring some classic fall theatrics without Rudy? Autumn lives in Illinois and Indiana gave director David Anspaugh a perfect setting for Pete going after his dream in this 1993 film. Those retro Notre Dame jackets give you the sense of college pride for whatever school you attended.
A memorable quote from this film is from Pete, “Well, you know what my dad always said, ‘Having dreams is what makes life tolerable’.”
Dead Poets Society
Robin Williams played the starring role for this 1989 film incredibly well. This film took place at St. Andrew’s School in Middletown, Delaware. Directed by Peter Weir, we are given a special fall feeling due to the back to school atmosphere, prep school experience, and given those annoying prep school unis.
A memorable quote from this film is from John Keating, played by Robin Williams, “No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world.”
Rushmore
This 1998 film gives you chills thinking about the Halloween scene in the courtyard. Max Fischer’s hat and just everything in between was well directed by Wes Anderson. Max Fischer had the following quote, “I saved Latin. What did you ever do?” Rushmore took place at St. John’s School in Houston, Texas. Definitely, this classic reminds you of back to school blues.
When Harry Met Sally
Finally, a romance film hits the list. Rob Reiner directs an excellent film that gives you time to bond with that special someone, reliving when you first met. Meg Ryan’s hat also gives that great fall appeal and northern style of handling this weather at this time of year. With the beautiful fall leaves in Central Park, NY, this is a great place to for romance.
A famous quote from this film is from Harry Burns, “I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” What a very touching quote, indeed!
You’ve Got Mail
Now, this movie isn’t exactly what you call a fall-themed classic. However, it begins with the fall season and it has such a beautiful display of the changing color of leaves as it goes through all of the seasons in New York. Director Nora Ephron took a lot of time filming this movie in 1998 capturing the different season and was a great classic to be achieved.
A favorited quote in this film is given by Joe Fox, “Don’t you love New York in the fall? It makes me wanna buy school supplies. I would send you a bouquet of newly sharpened pencils if I knew your name and address.”
