Warm Up With A Cozy Cocoa Recipe

As the colder months are quickly approaching, one of the best ways to warm your spirits is with a delicious cup of homemade cocoa!

For a lot of people, the holiday season just isn’t the same without a hearty cup of cocoa. While a hot chocolate packet may be enough to get your fix, there is just no replacing the chocolaty goodness that comes from a homemade cup.

Although it might take you a little longer to prepare, no store-bought hot chocolate can come anywhere near comparison to the real thing. That’s why Celebrating Sweets has come up with an exceptional recipe for delicious homemade cocoa.

Typically hot cocoa is made with cocoa powder as well as chocolate chips. The cocoa powder gives it the “hot chocolate” taste as the chips melt into the mixture. Add a little splash of vanilla for a little extra touch.

Using milk instead of water, heat in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Milk will ensure that your cocoa is as creamy as possible. Then, whisk in your cocoa powder to taste depending on how chocolatey you want it to be. Don’t forget to add a tablespoon or so of sugar to make this drink a little sweeter as the cocoa powder is unsweetened. Once this concoction is warm, add in your chocolate chips and whisk until they are fully melted into the milk. Next, you’ll need to add a splash of vanilla extract to really draw out all of the flavors of your cocoa. After this, you’ll want to serve immediately. Also, when serving, add in your favorite toppings such as marshmallows, whipped cream, chopped chocolate, or even crushed candy canes.

One of the best things about making cocoa from scratch is that you can make it precisely how you want it. For instance, if you want it to be richer, add half and half. For a less sweet taste, be sure to use dark chocolate chips. It’s all up to you!
